Why choose a forest glamping holiday?

Forests are nature’s antidote to a busy life. Swapping traffic for treetops, you wake to birdsong instead of alarms, breathe air scented with pine and leaf litter, and spend your evenings under a canopy of stars far from city light. Woodland stays are wonderfully private, too — many sites tuck each pod or cabin into its own clearing, so it feels like the forest is yours alone.

Stays among the trees

Forest glamping comes in all shapes: a treehouse perched in the branches, a snug camping pod on the woodland floor, a geodome with a clear roof for stargazing, or a safari tent with a wood-fired hot tub out on the deck. Whatever you choose, you’re never more than a few steps from a walk in the woods.

Things to do on a forest break

Woodlands are made for the outdoors. Follow waymarked walking and cycling trails, try mountain biking or a treetop adventure course, spot red squirrels and deer, forage for autumn fungi, or simply pull up a chair by the fire pit and let the day slow right down. Many forests have visitor centres, cafés and family activities on the doorstep.

Great UK forests for glamping

Some of Britain’s best-loved woodlands make superb glamping bases. Try the ancient oaks and roaming ponies of the New Forest in Hampshire, the adventure trails of the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, legendary Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, or the vast dark-sky pinewoods of Kielder in Northumberland. Head to Grizedale in the Lake District, Thetford Forest in East Anglia, or the wild Galloway Forest in Scotland and the Welsh woodlands of Snowdonia for forest glamping at its most dramatic.

Good for families and couples alike

A forest holiday flexes to suit you. Couples love the seclusion and the hot-tub-under-the-stars romance; families love the space, the freedom and the endless natural playground on the doorstep. And with plenty of dog-friendly woodland sites, no one has to be left behind.
