Where to go in the South Downs

The Sussex downland around Lewes and Arundel, the Hampshire end towards Winchester and the Meon Valley, and the coast at the Seven Sisters.

What kind of glamping?

Shepherd’s huts and pods suit the downland well, with safari tents and yurts on the larger farm sites. Many have hot tubs.

Walking the South Downs Way

A hundred miles of chalk ridge from Winchester to Eastbourne, walkable in sections and never far from a village.

Close to London

Most of the park is within two hours of the city, which makes it one of the easiest national parks for a short break.

Vineyards

The chalk here is the same as Champagne’s, and Sussex sparkling wine has become genuinely good. Several vineyards run tours.
