Tinywood Four sits in a single acre of mown pasture on a working arable farm outside Long Itchington, in the quiet farmland between Royal Leamington Spa and Southam. It is the newest of the Tinywood Homes and the only one built solely for two — everything the owners learned from Tinywood One, Two and Three has gone into a house designed around a couple from the start, rather than a larger one adapted to suit.

Four spaces make up the whole: a hot tub beneath its own timbered gazebo looking out across the fields, a covered outdoor kitchen with a wood burner and barbecue, an indoor kitchen and dining area framed by a picture window, and a bedchamber with a king size bed under a genuinely enchanting blossom-covered ceiling.

The location does a lot of work. Long Itchington itself is a short walk along a disused railway line, now a footpath and cycle route, and the village has seven pubs for its size. Royal Leamington Spa, historic Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon are all within a short drive, with the Cotswolds beyond them — so there is plenty to do if you want it, and nothing at all to disturb you if you do not.

There is no Wi-Fi and no television and that’s deliberate.

THE ACCOMMODATION

• The bedchamber is the heart of it — a king size bed against a timber-clad wall, a blossom tree spreading across the ceiling above, and glazing along one side that puts the fields at eye level from the pillow.
• The kitchen and dining area sits at the other end, compact and well equipped, with a picture window that does most of the work. On a bright morning you can sit with a coffee and watch the crop move in the wind.
• There is a private shower room and flushing toilet inside the house, with hot running water, an electric heater and a heated towel rail. Not a shared block, and not a walk across a field in the dark.
• Outside, a covered shanty holds an outdoor wood burner and a gas barbecue, so the evening carries on out of doors whatever the weather is doing. The hot tub sits under a timbered gazebo with seating alongside it, heated by its own private gas boiler.
• Maximum two guests. Up to three dogs are welcome, though this is a genuinely tiny house, so it is worth being realistic about how many will fit comfortably. A non-refundable charge of £25 per dog applies.

The Majic Barn Café is a short walk away on the same site, and is run by the owners: coffee, ice cream, refreshments and something to eat at lunchtime, in open countryside. Opening hours are posted on Instagram, @majicbarncafe.

THINGS TO DO NEARBY

• Long Itchington is a short walk away along a disused railway line that now runs as a footpath and cycle route, so it is worth bringing bikes. For a village of its size it is remarkably well served — seven pubs between them cover real ale at The Green Man, pizza to eat in or take away at The Harvester, canal-side bar food at The Two Boats, a proper restaurant and beer garden at The Duck on the Pond, and a good beer list at The Buck and Bell. The White Hart at Ufton earns the trip for its hilltop views alone, and the Hilltop Shop and Café has a butcher selling locally sourced meat, with breakfast and lunch served alongside.
• Royal Leamington Spa is about fifteen minutes away — Regency architecture, the Jephson Gardens along the river, and a good run of independent shops, cafés and restaurants.
• Warwick is a similar distance, with Warwick Castle, the medieval Lord Leycester Hospital and a compact historic centre that is easy to walk.
• Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace, is around half an hour: the birthplace itself, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the riverside.
• The Grand Union Canal runs through Long Itchington, with the Stockton flight of locks nearby and towpath walking in both directions. The Cotswolds open up beyond Stratford for a longer day out, and Coventry and Birmingham are both reachable if you want a city.

EATING AND DRINKING NEARBY

Long Itchington is known locally for its six pubs — the “Long Itchington Six” is a pub crawl in its own right, and every one of them is walkable from the house, which is a rare thing to be able to say.

• The Green Man — a cosy real ale pub in a converted 1690 farmhouse. They don’t serve food, but a chip van calls on a Friday and the chips can be eaten in the pub with your drink. Closed Mondays.
• The Harvester — excellent pizza, eat in or take away.
• The Two Boats — a quaint canal-side traditional pub with good bar food.
• The Cuttle Inn — family-run free house on the Grand Union Canal, with extensive gardens and a patio overlooking the water.
• The Buck and Bell — 17th-century village pub with a good selection of beers and a large outside patio.
• The Duck on the Pond — a handsome pub with a beer garden, now home to Cinnamon Arch, serving Indian food to eat in or take away. Closed Mondays; opens at 4pm.

Just outside the village:

• The White Hart at Ufton — a 16th-century coaching inn worth the trip for the hilltop views alone.
• Hilltop Farm Shop and Café — on the Fosse Way, with a first-rate butcher selling top-quality locally sourced produce, and breakfast and lunch in the café that come highly recommended.
• The Long Itch Diner — a British-style diner in a converted petrol station on the Southam Road, and great value if a fried breakfast takes your fancy.
