Glamping Suffolk and Norfolk
College Farm in Norfolk and border of Suffolk near Beccles with Featherdown Farms. Lucy, Marcus and especially young Henry are very proud of their farm voted 2013’s farm of the year. College Farm is located on the southerly tip of the Norfolk Broads, half-hour’s drive to South Norfolk’s well-known beaches and coastal towns, like Southwold and Walberswick.
They love to show – and bottle feed – their orphan lambs when they have them, Filly the horse, the herd of cattle grazing on the marshes, and the chickens at the top of the Feather Down field. There is so much to do you won’t need to stray further than the farm. Don’t miss the farm tour. Enjoy a wander on the marshes, take a picnic to the river and assist in looking after the lambs. The communal horse grooming session is always a hit, and don’t forget to collect eggs from the henhouse! Unfortunately, dogs cannot be accommodated.
The bee conservatory is a very special extra. Or relax at your tent watching the sails of the pleasure craft in the distance pootling up and down the River Waveney. The honesty shop has meat and eggs produced on the farm or sourced from one of the neighbours, healthy honey, local apple juice and ice cream, as well as freshly baked cakes and treats by Lucy.
Lucy and Marcus love getting to know all their guests, wanting each to have a Feather Down experience they will remember for a lifetime. One kind visitor related that “their attention to detail was faultless and touching”. Further afield, Bewilderwood, the tree-house adventure park, is just over half an hour’s drive away. Norwich, on the River Wensum, is closely connected with the Broads in both history and spirit with medieval lanes and alleys and more medieval parish churches than any other northern Europe city, plus two cathedrals and a Norman castle.
