Glamping Herefordshire Powys Border

Redwood Valley offer glamping getaways on the Border of Herefordshire and Powys. Located in Presteigne Wales and the borders of Herefordshire and recently listed in The Sunday Times top glamping sites, Redwood Valley is a family-run, eco-friendly treehouse and yurt camping site set in 25 acres of woodland. Redwood Valley is a secret refuge where kids can roam free and you can enjoy absolute peace and tranquillity. Our hidden valley has a treehouse and two secluded yurts nestled on the edge of the woodland and overlooking the wildflower meadow, brook and our mighty Redwood. Whether you are having a romantic meal under the stars after a cultural day in Hay on Wye or toasting marshmallows on a campfire with your family after a hike to the enchanted local waterfall, you really will feel as though the modern world is a million miles away. We are sure you are going to love it and look forward to welcoming you soon.

Redwood Valley was been listed in The Telegraph as one of the 20 spectacular glamping sites for 2017!

OUR TREETOP CABIN
Our Treetop Cabin is a very special haven. Its magnificent position, perched high on a wooded slope overlooking the valley, means that guests can enjoy spectacular views and complete privacy. From inside, the large windows allow a stunning panorama of the woodland canopy allowing you to enjoy the abundance of nature in total comfort. Relaxing in the hammock on the balcony, the only sound is the chattering of birds and the babbling of the brook far below.

The cabin has been lovingly crafted from wood from the valley. There is a large balcony with chairs and hammock, and a wooden walkway to a luxurious private composting loo. The cabin is furnished with a double bed (with cosy down duvet, pillows and crisp white bedlinen) and a daybed which can comfortably sleep one additional adult or two children. We also provide a small fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, a wind up lantern, and wood for the log burning stove. Outside there is a spring water tap, and in the wooded glade behind the cabin is a seating area where you can enjoy the BBQ which doubles as a fire pit.

OUR YURTS
We have two distinctive 19ft yurts which can each accommodate up to five people. Nestled in amongst the trees, each yurt offers a private and secluded space in which to relax and enjoy the view across the valley to our redwood and the brook.

SEREN YURT
Is a Turkmen bentwood yurt made from locally-sourced ash by Henry Dowell. The bentwood yurt gets it name from the distinctive steam-bent ends to the roof poles. The structure is lighter than our ger but equally beautiful and romantic, and its elegant structure is reflected in simple wooden furnishings.

EILIAN YURT
Is a traditional Mongolian ger, made in Mongolia, felt-lined for extra warmth, and beautifully handpainted. We have decorated the yurt to enhance and reflect the traditional style and with the log burner lit and the fairy lights on, it is absolutely magical.

Both yurts are comfortably furnished with

  • A mixture of handmade and vintage furniture
  • Single and double futons
  • King size beds were made by us here at Redwood Valley
  • Handmade chairs by our greenwood working teacher Ben Willis
  • Down duvets and pillows
  • Electric bedside lights
  • Wind up lanterns
  • Log burning stove to ensure that you remain cosy, even on those chillier nights

Each yurt is set on raised platform with a spiralling, seashell-like lower platform where you can sit and gaze out over the meadow or up at the star-filled sky with no light pollution to interfere. Outside, you will find your own spring water tap, BBQ (which doubles as a fire pit), table and stools.

FACILITIES AREA

KITCHEN AND COOKING
Our woodland kitchen is fully equipped with two fridges, gas hobs, microwave, toaster, kettle, pots, pans, kitchen implements, cutlery and crockery. There are separate bins for recycling, compost and landfill. Guests are invited to help themselves to the complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oil, condiments, and herbs and spices. There is a long trestle table on which to eat, play the board games provided or peruse our selection of books on the local area, and plant and wildlife identification.

WASHING AND TOILET
Next to the kitchen is our shower. Gas-heated to ensure a constant supply of hot water (we are investigating other power sources, possibly hydroelectric from our spring as the woodland setting means we do not have enough sun for solar), the shower has a spacious changing area and complimentary shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. The grey water from the shower and kitchen is managed through an underground soak-away system. For this reason, we kindly ask you to use the biodegradable toiletries provided as these will not harm the local ecosystem.

All water for the kitchen and shower comes from our very own fresh-water spring and is UV-treated to ensure that it is safe for drinking – delicious spring water on tap so bring a bottle and take some home!  The composting toilet is located close to the yurts and kitchen. For those of you who are not familiar with compost loos, we provide instructions inside, and can assure you that ours is clean, comfortable and sweet-smelling! The toilet has a rainwater-supplied basin.

WHAT TO DO
Under a mile from Redwood Valley, Presteigne is a thriving town with a wine bar, four pubs and an eclectic array of independent shops and eateries. Within a stone’s throw of Redwood Valley, we have a fantastic farm park and owl sanctuary, a spectacular waterfall, Ludlow Castleand, of course, Offa’s Dyke. We are also within an easy day trip of Hay on Wye, the seaside around Aberystwyth, the Brecon Beacons, the Centre for Alternative Technology and much of Snowdonia.

You will also find much to keep you occupied within Redwood Valley. Aside from BBQs and campfires, there are two nature trails to explore, a huge rope swing and a brook where you can paddle. In the event of rain, we have plenty of books, playing cards and board games in our kitchen area. We are also in a dark sky site – there is an observatory just up the road in Knighton – so bring a telescope if you are a keen stargazer.

GREEN WOODWORKING AND SILVERSMITHING COURSES
We will begin running green woodworking courses throughout the season according to demand. Please register your interest and we will contact you with further details. Fancy spending a romantic weekend at Redwood Valley and coming home with your very own handmade wedding rings? The jeweller Tamsin Smith will be running private wedding ring-making workshops. Couples work with the teacher to design unique silver or gold rings which they go on to make over a two-day period. Again, please register your interest for further information.
