Abbey Farm Shepherds Huts The Chilterns
Tucked into the folds of the Chiltern Hills on a 270-acre working farm, Abbey Farm has two luxury shepherd’s huts for couples looking for somewhere genuinely quiet. Each sits in its own secluded spot with open country views and a private hot tub, a short distance from the market town of Thame on the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire border, and only minutes from junctions 7 and 8 of the M40. Oxford is twelve miles away, and there is a mainline station three and a half miles down the road with trains to London Marylebone — so it is an easy escape from the city without feeling anywhere near one.
The huts are for adults only, and no pets.
THE SHEPHERDS HUTS
The Roost stands on the edge of a woodland plantation, easily reached on foot or by car, with a wood-fired hot tub you can sit in and watch the stars come out. Inside there is a double bed, a kitchen and dining area, and a proper bathroom with a flushing loo, shower and basin.
Kites Nest is nestled into the sloping landscape a little way off — self-contained, heated and insulated, with its own hot tub. The layout is much the same, with a drop-down double bed that frees up floor space during the day.
Both are single storey, so there are no steps or ladders to manage, and either can be booked alongside Red Kite Cottage on the same farm if you are travelling as a family across generations.
The owners live on the farm and are on hand if you need anything, but the huts are positioned well apart, so you are unlikely to see or hear another soul.

THINGS TO DO NEARBY
There are pubs, cafés, shops and a supermarket about a mile away, with the traditional market town of Thame just beyond — historic buildings, pretty parks and a High Street full of places to eat and drink.
Oxford is twelve miles by car or bus: dreaming spires and college quadrangles, the Bodleian Library, the University Museum of Natural History, Christ Church and the castle, with punting on the river and the rooftop bars and restaurants at Westgate when you have had your fill of culture.
Walkers have the Chilterns on the doorstep. Watlington Hill, Shirburn Hill, Christmas Common, Coombe Hill and Wendover Woods are all within easy reach, with miles of beech woodland between them. About thirty miles out the Cotswolds open up for a day trip — Blenheim Palace, Burford, Batsford Arboretum, Broadway Tower and the lavender fields at Snowshill.
PRICES
From £130 per night, based on a two-night minimum stay (£260). Both huts sleep two.
