Glamping Yorkshire

At Jollydays Glamping near Scarborough in Yorkshire we have created a unique tented camp, close to nature and the rhythms of the season. A Journey back to simpler times, a place to talk, laugh, relax and reflect, hot showers and BBQ’s, etc. By “normal” camping standards, Jollydays is luxurious with beds, fires, toilets, hot showers, BBQ’s and kitchens. We are not comparable with a hotel, so you won’t find sockets, tvs’, lights etc. It is a tent with no insulation. We are located in Yorkshire, the largest county in the United Kingdom and only 20 minutes drive from the historic town of York.

200 acres of magical woodland surrounds the glamping site, which can only be accessed by one small private road. You are well and truly away from the busy city life when you stay at Jollydays Glamping. Look out for the beautiful, seasonal flora that decorates the camp. When you are in our tents, you will hear the natural wildlife sing and dance, swap the smell of the city to the nostalgic aroma of the campfire, and get your hands dirty for a change and build a den within the woodland. This Saxon woodland is only 5 minutes drive from the historical village of Stamford Bridge, where you can get ice-cream and whisky.

The Multi Award Winning camp was set up by design couple Carolyn and Christian Van Outersterp who’d previously masterminded London’s stylish restaurant bar and discreet celebrity hang out CVO Firevault.
Jollydays is the culmination of the Van Outersterps dreams to combine a love of camping and chic hotels – it’s an extension of their simplified lifestyle – beautiful surrounding, great food and socialising around a roaring log fire. For the kids it’s heaven on earth (even those addicted to their Playstations).

Inside this mid-century, vintage style tent contains everything you need for your glamping holiday with us. Ideal both for families and adult groups to enjoy an escape break! It has a large wood burning stove, instant hot running water and 6 hot water bottles. We provide a BBQ and 4 gas ring hobs to help you with the cooking. Or indulge by ordering a breakfast and supper baskets throughout your stay. There is a bathroom cabin inside the tent with a toilet, shower or roll-top bath, and a sink to relax in luxury . We also provide fresh towels for your stay. A kitchen cabin is inside the tent too! With a kitchen sink, electric light, all crockery and utensils, and a fridge to chill a bottle when you arrive!  The veranda outside has a seating area for eating alfresco and an extra space with awning overhead to BBQ.  Finally there is a large dining and living space to have a candlelit dinner and relaxing space on the sofa, all surrounding that big wood burning stove.

There are candles, tea lights, and a paraffin lantern in all luxury tents, and a small electric light in the kitchen hut in the Deluxe and Lodge tents. The thick dark canvas, to blend into the woodland, means that the tents are often dark and cosy inside, especially during the short days of the cooler months and nights. Electricity and access to electricity is very limited which makes reading inside tricky and there is no electric light in the shower and toilet. This makes for a romantic and nostalgic experience. The communal toilets and showers have electric lights.

We try to provide as much as we can but you will need toiletries, food and a torch (it’s pitch black at night in the woods). If you order a Bell Tent you will also have to provide your own towels. In regards to food, you can book supper baskets and breakfasts in advance to be delivered to your tent so you don’t even have to bother with food shopping.

When you arrive at camp you are given an allocation of candles, tea lights, firelighters, matches and a bag of logs per night of your stay. If you need more than the allocated amount, the log store and shop are open for a short period everyday, where you can get more of these. During cold weather you will have to wrap up warm, preferably in layers, and maybe bring an extra sleeping bag (our quilts are 13 tog, but a sleeping bag will make you extra toasty). Also with the main source of heat being a fire, wood smoke is going to be around most of the time, so smart clothes should be kept well out of the way. As the tents can’t be locked it is best to leave valuables at home.

The Van Outersterps can supply scrumptious meals and deliver them straight to your tent. Menus change seasonally to get the taste of the best food for that particular time of year, and the produce is (where possible) from local businesses/suppliers in the area (obviously things like lemons are not locally grown). As we source locally, availability may be erratic (or something good becomes available) we reserve the right to change the menu without notice. Our meat comes from the local award winning butcher.  We can supply Breakfast and Supper Baskets and menus are available.

There’s obviously the option of cooking your own food that you have brought with you, or had delivered (Sainsbury’s and Asda deliver to the camp) which helps increase car boot space! Either cook by BBQ, kitchen hobs or in our clay oven on site. Guests have a lot of fun creating their own pizzas and once the clay oven has heated up, it will cook food in a matter of minutes!

Catering also available for Large Groups please enquire

Jollydays is a fabulous place to visit with kids, there is something special about spending time in nature and the woods have a magic all of their own. We deliberately keep things simple – our “entertainment complex” consists of a wooden Wendy house and a couple of rope swings!
