Penhein Glamping is an indulgent Persian inspired Glampsite nestled in the stunning Monmouthshire countryside. It’s an award winning site: winner of Sawday’s “2014 Glamping Location of the Year”, rated one of the top 20 UK glamping sites by the Times (May 2015) and the Sunday Times (July 2015). Set in the middle of Penhein’s 400 acre farm in a coppiced wood opening out onto a wildflower meadow, Penhein’s Persian alachigh tents cater for their guests’ every need. There’s a wood-burning stove providing heating and cooking facilities, running water, comfy beds, chunky kitchen table and chairs and even an ensuite loo. The shower block has been described by guests as better than a spa – with underfloor heating, monsoon showers and a roll top bath, it’s the perfect place to relax after a day exploring!
Penhein Farm is a hidden escape from the city, you’d never guess you were just half an hour from both central Bristol and Cardiff. There are miles of unspoilt countryside all around you.
Nature trails lead from the site going to the top of Gray Hill providing stunning views and down to the Castroggy Brook which invites paddling! Guests can pre-book food to be delivered to their tent on the day of their choosing and there are multiple activities including bushcraft, mud runs and treasure hunts on offer. There’s a communal tent for all guests to use, and for larger groups it provides a space for up to 30 people to sit and eat together.
THE ALACHIGH TENTS
The six dome-shaped alachighs (pronounced al-la-cheeg) at Penhein Farm are Persian designs, traditionally used by nomadic tribes in northern Iran. These ones look just as at home in the rather less mountainous Monmouthshire countryside, spread within a three acre ancient woodland, each with their own private fire pit and outdoor sitting area. While owners Helen and James have kept a Persian flavour in the décor, the interiors also have a rustic country feel, with individual chandeliers and a different colour theme in each one.
The alachighs comfortably sleep a family of four on one double and two single truckle beds, as well as one extra (or two little ones) on the sofa bed. Choose from Catta Dee, The Coombe, The Cribbau, The Oakes, The Park and The Slades
A locally sourced welcome hamper will greet you on arrival, including bread, butter and homemade jam, Welsh cakes and delicious apple juice.
