Glamping Suffolk
Alde Garden is a small glamping site in the heart of Suffolk and only a 20 minute drive from Suffolk’s diverse coastline. We have an eclectic range of rustic, quirky accommodation as well as a handful of small tent pitches in a perfect spot for a holiday, retreat or short break. Rustic pathways take you through the trees, shrubs, flowers and wildlife areas and the garden is also home to many friendly ducks and chickens. Next to the garden is The Sweffling White Horse, our award-winning real ale pub.
THE YURTS
We have two 16’ yurts that have each been handcrafted by ourselves. We coppice the wood locally, shaping each pole using traditional hand tools then steam bending them using a basic wood-fired steamer. The frames are covered with a thick canvas ‘skin’ and fitted with a woodburning stove, groundsheet, carpets and furniture. To add to the magic, the yurts are lit at night by solar powered fairy lights and tea light lanterns.
BARN OWL – Sleeps 2 to 4
The twists and bends in the wood of Barn Owl give it a very romantic and magical feel. The yurt is fitted with
- Rustic 4-poster bed
- Extra single futons can be added for a 3rd or 4th guest if required
- Washstand with jug and bowl
- A small kitchen cupboard and a camping gas stove allow you to cook or just make a cup of tea without having to leave the yurt
- Small table and two stools
- Beautiful woodburner
- Lots of rugs for lounging about in front of the woodburning stove
- Solar fairy lights and tea light lanterns for a warm glow and a cosy feel
OUTSIDE is a raised deck, the perfect spot to catch the early morning sun with
- Outdoor seating area with rustic balustrade
- Two chairs handmade from reclaimed wood
- In front of the yurt is a private grassed area with a BBQ
DRAGONFLY YURT – Sleeps 2 to 5
Dragonfly yurt was built with families in mind so has a much more sturdy feel and is more spacious. Dragonfly has
- Double futon bed with an extra deep futon mattress
- Two single futons (and an extra single futon can be added for a 5th guest if required)
- Large table with seating for 4
- Beautiful woodburner
- Solar fairy lights and tea light lanterns for a warm glow and a cosy feel

BELL TENT – Sleeps 4
Our bell tent is 5m (the same diameter as the yurts) includes
- Double bed
- Two single futons

- Rugs on the floor
- solar fairy lights and tea light lanterns
OUTSIDE

THE GYPSY CARAVAN – Sleeps 2 plus
Our traditional and romantic wooden gypsy caravan is a fine, unique example of exceptional workmanship and beauty and around 100 years old. With the help of a carpenter we restored it in traditional gypsy caravan style and design, but using lots of recycled materials. Nestled in it’s own private spot surrounded by trees, shrubs and wildflowers – let our gypsy caravan take you to a faraway place without moving an inch! The caravan includes
- Cosy and very comfortable double bed (slightly shorter and narrower than a normal double – 6′ x just over 4′) tucked away Behind a curtain
- Underneath the double bed is a small bed space (5′ x 3′) suitable for one or two small children
- At night it is lit by solar fairy lights and tea light lanterns
- Small woodburner built in to keep you nice and toasty
CARAVAN FACILITIES
The caravan is parked next to an old wooden donkey shed, which has been converted and fitted out to provide extra living and cooking space, should you require it. Inside you’ll find a traditional washstand, seating, cupboard space, a table and a gas stove. Beside the donkey shed is an outdoor seating area with a BBQ.
THE HIDEOUT – Sleeps 2
Not quite a treehouse holiday – but pretty damn close! In the absence of any suitable trees, we decided instead to be inspired by our stay in a cute little wooden structure many years ago in New Zealand. Called ‘The Hideout’ – this cosy little retreat is tucked away in a small clearing amongst the trees and shrubs almost totally hidden from sight by the rest of the garden. In keeping with our recycling ethos, lots of the Hideout is made from reclaimed materials. Two glass panels in the roof allow a wonderful view of the nature around you – whether it be dragonflies, birds & butterflies during the daytime or bats and stars at night. This little structure includes
- Double mattress (you’ll need to supply your own bedding for this one)
- The mattress folds for sitting up, so you can enjoy a beer or play cards
- Two bedside tables
- Carpeted floor
- Solar powered fairy lights twinkle at night
- Outside the Hideout is a tiny rustic table and chairs (which also doubles as a step!) and a small clearing for sitting out
PLEASE NOTE:
Due to the small entrance, this structure is not suitable for those with a bad back or who find kneeling/crawling difficult;
No bedding is provided – you will need to bring bedding (or sleeping bags) and pillows;
The tiny size of this structure means your body heat will warm the interior nicely. It is not airtight however – think tent or small shed!
Due to the positioning of the structure amongst trees, and the fact that it’s entirely made from wood, we do not allow BBQs or smoking within the Hideout area. There is an area nearby suitable for BBQs etc.
NO NAKED FLAMES – candles only in closed lanterns;
