Indulge in glamping on the Islands of Orkney, off the North coast of Scotland, a more adventurous style of self catering. Enjoy a special and unique experience with the exclusive use of our little corner of paradise. Enjoy the long evenings, stunning sunsets and big skies.
We are situated in Rendall, 12 miles from both Kirkwall and Stromness, making us convenient for the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage sites as well as the Broch of Gurness, the Brough of Birsay and the ferry to Rousay.
Our Orkneyurt is modelled on a Mongolian Ger and was made especially for us in Scotland using wood from sustainable sources and heavy duty canvas to withstand the changeable Orkney weather. It is simply decorated with carpets, rugs and fabric from around the world and has a warm, homely atmosphere with a unique charm. There is no power to the yurt to ensure that you are not distracted from the peace and simplicity of the experience. We supply wood for the stove sourced from our own trees or reclaimed from other sustainable sources.
The yurt is 21 ft in diameter and will comfortably sleep four but is still cosy enough for a romantic stay for two and includes
- Large open plan space for sleeping and relaxing
- Central wood burning stove provides warmth and a focal point
- Double bed
- Fold out futon
- If required, a further two children could sleep on an African bedroll on the floor by the fire
- All bedding is provided, with duvets and extra blankets available
- Family games and books to while away a pleasant evening by the fire
A made to measure wooden cabin provides a comfortable area out of the elements and away from the yurt in which to prepare and enjoy your food. Kirk View Kitchen was built using as much reclaimed material as possible including a pew from the old Evie Kirk and a stained glass window from the Hackland Kirk.It is fully equipped with all you will need including
- Small oven with hob
- Crockery, cutlery and pots and pans
A picnic table and fire pit are found in the field with the yurt and allow for alfresco dining and barbecue cooking. When available we can supply eggs from our ducks and hens and flowers from our garden.
The former girls’ toilet block at our Old School has been converted into a spacious toilet and shower room. Underfloor heating warms the flagstone floor and instant hot water is available to the indoor and outdoor sinks and to the shower.
LAUNDRY AND DISHES
A covered outdoor area next to the shower room has a large Belfast sink for laundry and dishes and also a clothes line for drying. This area is also ideal for storing bikes, deck chairs and wood for the fire.
