Glamping on the Welsh Borders with Hot Tub
Award winning Cosy Under Canvas offers some of the best glamping in Wales. It is a woodland glamping site on the Welsh borders, close to the famous book town of Hay on Wye. Perfect to satisfy your craving for the outdoors with no compromise on comfort. Think comfy beds, snug duvets, fluffy sheepskins and cosy rugs. But we’re off-grid and eco-friendly with compost loos, steamy wood-fired showers and solar lights. There are 5 spacious domes (Holly, Beech, Oak, Hazel and Rowan) and 2 cosy domes (Ash and Willow), all on decking with wood burning stoves and a private fire pit.
All domes have exclusive use of a wood-fired hot tub, perfect for steamy nights under the stars. There’s a fully kitted, shared camp kitchen with everything you need to make the most of time out, chilling out and hanging out. It’s peaceful, relaxing and comfortable. The sky is dark and the stars are bright. From woodland swings and stream-dipping kits to personal toiletries and real coffee, we’ve thought of everything to get you back to nature in style.
Stay local – there’s activities and games to keep the family happy on site. Dip into the Cosy Activity Book for inspiration, paddle in the shallow stream or just laze in the hammocks and take in the view. Stray away – potter round the market towns of Hay on Wye or Kington, stride along a section of the Offa’s Dyke Path, or take the family up a mountain, behind a waterfall or through a forest in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Information is provided in the ‘ Cosy Lounge ‘. For more adventure – try a guided mountain bike ride, a family canoe or kayak trip, a gorge walk or pony trekking, all are available close by, just ask for details and recommendations.
THE SPACIOUS DOMES
Our glamping guests love the 5 stylish domes, Holly, Oak, Beech, Hazel and Rowan. The domes are 6m in diameter, 4m high and sit on a wooden platform. They sleep up to 4 adults comfortably and 5 or 6 if you’ve got the kids with you. Two sleep on a comfy king size bed, made from locally sourced wood and the extras on raised futon beds. All beds have memory foam toppers for extra warmth and comfort. The beds are all topped with stylish, contemporary Welsh blankets and throws, plus there are fluffy rugs and sheepskins. Snuggle up under the thick feather duvet on the king size beds. Inside there’s a wood burning stove for keeping you toasty at night. Plus, there’s a recycled gas bottle chiminea on the deck or get back to nature, embrace the glamping experience and build yourself a roaring camp fire in the pit in front of the dome.
Imagine soaking in a steaming hot tub after an active day in the countryside. Bliss! The simple eco tubs are easy to use. All spacious domes have 4/5 person hot tubs and there is an additional cost of £55 – £70 per stay to use these. The cosy domes have smaller, 2/3 person tubs and the additional cost to use these is £35 – £50 per stay. This includes enough wood to use the hot tub at least twice.
All 7 domes have a private compost toilet and full access to the wood fired showers. Holly, Oak, Ash, Willow and Beech domes share the kitchen facilities in the woodland whilst Hazel and Rowan domes are set slightly apart with their own camp kitchen.
The 2 stylish domes are spacious, sophisticated and are easy to keep warm and homely using the specially designed wood burning stove in each one. The cosy domes are 5m in diameter, sit on a wooden platform and comfortably sleep up to 4 adults, 2 sleep on a double size bed and any extras on raised futon mattress, all with memory foam toppers for extra cosy comfort. Keep warm under the thick feather duvets, contemporary Welsh blankets, throws and sheepskins and fluffy rugs. To complete the glamping experience each has a wood burning stove that heats the dome in no time and can be stoked up to keep you toasty into the night. There’s a recycled gas bottle chiminea on the deck of each dome that’s great for toasting marshmallows, or even your toes, after an adventurous day out and to complete your dome holiday experience make a camp fire in the private pit in front of the deck.
HOT TUBS FOR HIRE WITH DOMES

Cook on the open fire or knock yourself something up in the shared camp kitchen. There are two kitchens, one in the woods and a smaller one stream side. Each kitchen is equipped with traditional enamel crockery, pots, pans, cutlery and cooking utensils, a cool box and ice packs and a storage box for dried food. There are 3 gas stoves and a Rayburn for cooking in the main kitchen. As the site is off grid there is no conventional oven and the Rayburn oven isn’t suitable for pizzas or oven baked ready meals. It is fabulous for slow cooking though and a pot of stew can be popped in early morning and be ready for supper that night. The stream side kitchen has gas stoves for cooking. No need to bring tea, coffee, sugar, oil, salt or pepper, it’s all here. Fresh spring water is provided from taps in the kitchen, shower and washroom for washing, washing up and cooking. Filtered water is also provided for drinking.
Here at our alternative accommodation campfires are positively encouraged so why not plan to cook over the open fire. We supply a Koitlich (tripod) to stand above the fire plus a large pot or grill to hang from it. The grill can be used much like a BBQ so that meat, veggie skewers etc can be griddled and the one pot is perfect for cooking up a risotto, ratatouille, sausage casserole or similar. Have a look at our ‘Cooking at Cosy’ ideas.
TOILETS AND SHOWERS
We keep our impact on the environment to a minimum. Our composting toilets are private, there’s one for each dome. They are tree bogs and have willow planted around the edge of them which feeds on the nutrients from the urine in the waste. A very effective system. As the site is off grid the showers in the woods are wood fuelled with a lovely canopy view of the trees above. They are steaming hot with plenty of room inside for changing. There is also a shower block a short walk away where the water is heated by our biomass boiler.
A DIGITAL DETOX – no electricity, mobile signal or wi-fi – WE PREFER IT THAT WAY!
There is no electricity in the woods. Guests are provided with two bright LED rechargeable lanterns and there are charging points in the washroom. There are also facilities for hair drying and straightening and for charging phones etc. There is no mobile phone signal in or around the site. We prefer it that way and hope you will embrace the sounds of nature and of people having fun. WiFi is available from the house so please ask if you would like to briefly connect.
