Glamping in Scotland near Edinburgh
Dod Mill offering glamping in Scotland near Edinburgh, has an eclectic collection of industrial and artistic buildings and that includes new glamping options for this year, the Stilt House and Fishing Hut. Located in the North Scottish Borders and just 40 minutes from Edinburgh the Fishing Hut sleeps up to 3 people and the Stilt House sleeps up to 3, or 2 and 2 small children. There is also further self catering accommodation located in the grounds of Dod Mill. Guests can wander along the old mill lade to the mill pond, over the bridge for a walk up the Boondreigh River towards the Lammermuir Hills, make friends with a few rare breed sheep and find quirky, old artists cabins scattered around the site. There is an abundance of wildlife too including wild ducks, salmon, trout, herons, hedgehogs, owls, otters and deer.
The fairytale Thirlestane Castle is nearby and The Royal Burgh of Lauder, with it’s artisan deli, baker, local butcher, an amazing fruit and vegetable shop, art gallery, pubs and restaurants.
THE FISHING HUT
Originally built by an artist, this quirky retreat set on the Boonreigh River bank is half wilderness cabin and half vintage caravan. The cabin with two outdoor decks is just right for an off grid and campfire cooking stay where you can absorb yourself in the outdoors.
INSIDE THE HUT you will find
- Small cosy comfortable double bed with linen and bedding
- Day bed (linen and bedding available on request)
- Small kitchen equipped with cooking implements, cutlery, crockery and glasses
- Esse Bakeheart woodburning stove to be used for cooking and heating with logs provided
- Cool Box (no fridge)
- Cold water kitchen tap
- Washing up liquid, cloth, washing-up brush, bin bags, oil and salt and pepper
- Dining table for up to 3
- Solar power for lighting and USB charge points
- No WIFI, but you should get a mobile signal most of the time if required
- A composting loo at the Fishing Hut and a shower 4 mins away (towels included)
OUTSIDE
Located right by the River and it’s a perfect setting to take your favourite drink out to the raised deck on the river side. You’ll spot wild ducks swimming and maybe even a heron. Perhaps even an otter at dusk or dawn. The deck on the other side of the cabin catches the evening sun. At the Camp fire pit you’ll find a circle of rocks for sitting on with a fire pit in the middle. Rare breed sheep will be grazing quietly nearby.
THE STILT HOUSE
The Stilt House is a total renovation project from its past life as an artist’s studio. This modern yet rustic treehouse is set between the river and Mill pond. It’s a cool unique space with beautiful views from tree canopy level and natural inspiration from every window. This hideaway has a gorgeous interior, dreamy bed linen, a proper shower and flushing loo.
INSIDE THE TREEHOUSE you will find
- Built-in king size bed with gorgeous bed linen
- Sofa bed (bedding/linen available on request)
- Small kitchen equipped with mini-fridge, single electric hob, cooking implements, cutlery, crockery and glasses
- Esse Bakeheart woodburning stove to be used for cooking and heating (logs provided)
- Water in kitchen tap (hot & cold)
- Cool Box (no fridge)
- Washing up liquid, cloth, washing-up brush, bin bags, oil and salt and pepper

- Separate shower room and loo just 30m from Stilt House (Towels included)
OUTSIDE
Seating is set out on the grass by the mill pond or can be moved under the Stilt House so you can enjoy even when raining. There is also a Fire pit for the full campfire experience! Cross the bridge to the other side of the Boondreigh for riverside walks and access to the Lammermuir Hills.
