The Shepherds Hide is ideally located for walks along Alresford Creek to Wivenhoe with footpaths passing through the farm, bird watching from the shepherds hut and along the Essex creeks and salt marshes in this part of the county. This coastal retreat is an artists, walkers and bird watchers paradise. From the shepherds hut you can often see a Marsh Harrier swooping over the mill pond, a really amazing sight as well as a range of other fantastic birds, such as the Kingfisher who we see on a daily basis here. This is now owned by Essex County Council and is open as a museum between April and September on the last Sunday of every month, some bank holidays and special mill open days. Enjoy our menagerie of tame ducks, chickens and guinea fowl.  During the Summer between late May and mid July (season length is subject to the weather) the farm opens for pick your own strawberries.
