Old Bidlake Farm is a glamping and campsite in West Dorset in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Marshwood Vale, three miles from the dramatic Jurassic Coast.
Sleep under canvas, close to nature in one of our four traditional canvas Bell Tents which sit sheltered by hedgerows and wildflowers in a one acre section of pasture field. You’ll share your space with roe deer, a barn owl, rabbits and other wildlife and with enchanting backdrop views of Pilsdon Pen, Colmers and Lewesdon Hills.
Adjacent, in the pretty orchard, we also offer a couple of classic caravans perfect for peaceful romantic getaway. A one minute stroll through the orchard leads you to the Barn where you will find a fully equipped kitchen, flushing toilets, electric showers and a large communal area to socialise and dine together.
There is plenty of space for children to run free, ride bikes or go pony trekking at the riding stables next door whilst you sit back, watch the sunset and unwind.
THE BELL TENTS
Our four beautiful – Colmers, Pilsdon, Lewesdon and Eggardon are 5 metre in size and comfortably accommodate one double futon for adults and two child sized futons for children. An additional bed can be supplied for a third small child or there is space for you to bring a travel cot for a baby or toddler.
With each Bell Tent we provide
- Cotton bottom sheets
- Plenty of cushions and blankets and hot water bottles
- Pots and pans, crockery and cutlery
- Water carrier
- Family size cool box with ice packs
- Two lanterns
- Wood burning rocket stove to cook your campfire meals
- Picnic bench to dine under the stars
- Cotton striped deckchairs, windbreaks and a cotton tarp
You will just need to bring your own pillows, sleeping bags/duvets and bed linen or they can be hired from us for a small additional charge.
Our two wonderfully nostalgic retro caravans, charming for their functional simplicity of an age gone by, are decorated with pretty pastels and eclectic charm. They sit in private spots within the orchard, close to the barn facilities and perfect for cosy romantic hideaways. Alternatively they can be pitched next to a Bell Tent to provide additional sleeping accommodation for teenagers wanting a little extra space or grandparents who would like to join the family camping adventure. They also come in handy as extra accommodation for whole site bookings.
Hailing from the 70’s this is a modest van, with a pastel painted interior, velvet seating and original curtains. The seating area converts to a small double. It is perfect for those wanting good value accommodation with a hint of kitsch!
The Bluebird is our more luxurious option and is most definitely the closest we come to ‘Glamping’ at Old Bidlake Farm. A 1980’s Safari Cosalt, the Bluebird is pitched close to the barn facilities and has an electric supply to power heating, lighting and a mini fridge. It provides a perfect romantic escape.
A minutes stroll through the orchard takes you to the Barn extension where the shower block, communal kitchen and ‘Rainy Day Room’ are located.
The Kitchen includes
- Small fridge freezer
- Electric hobs
- Small electric oven
- Kettle and toaster
- Stove top smoker, great for cooking your catch from the local mackerel fishing trips
- Large cupboard for storing food
- Several power points for charging phones etc.
- Constant supply of hot water for washing up
- Basic provisions such as salt and pepper, olive oil, sugar, tea, coffee and hot chocolate
A covered eating area with a large communal table is especially popular with groups as a perfect place to breakfast together.
Also housed in the Barn is a large, attractive room, comfortably furnished with
- Dining tables
- Small writing bureau stocked with Old Bidlake Postcards
- Shelves of guidebooks, maps and tourist information
- Plenty of games, books and craft activities to keep the children entertained
- Film projector and surround sound system and a selection of classic family films (please note there is no television or Wi-Fi)
2 PRIVATE WASHROOMS include
- Electric shower
- Flush toilet
- Hand basin
- Baby bath also available for little ones
The campsite rubbish and recycling area is found adjacent to the barn and there is also a washing line and a large covered storage area for bikes.
THE POTTING SHED
You will find the Potting Shed adjacent to the polytunnel and close to the vegetable patch, a convenient location for us to stock the shelves with any freshly picked produce (as and when seasonally available). In addition you will find basic camping provisions such as firewood, firelighters and of course marshmallows. The Potting Shed also houses a freezer where you can replenish your cool box ice packs, there are sockets for you to charge the lanterns and a large fridge freezer for communal use (more often as not is serves as the campsite drinks chiller!). A washing machine, tumble dryer. iron and ironing board eliminate time consuming trips to the launderette and there’s a dressing table area for those who can only contemplate camping if they can bring their hair-dryer and straighteners along.
THE CHICKEN COOP
We lovingly care for a small and happy flock of chickens at Old Bidlake and in return they reward us with deliciously golden free range eggs. In the winter time they roam the length and breadth of the smallholding but when the campers arrive they return to their run in the corner of the orchard, complete with its own mini glamping field shelter. Every day at around 6.00pm we visit them to collect the eggs and we are always delighted if little (or large) helpers wish to come along.
Great for Families, Couples, Events and Exclusive Hire!
