Glamping Devon with Hot Tub
The Old Stable in Devon offers glamping in the Zingaro Wagon alongside two beautiful and individual holiday apartments. Zingaro Wagon is a beautiful wooden barrel top wagon made by local craftsmen, offered on either a self catered or bed and breakfast basis. We will prepare your hamper the evening before and bring it over to you, so that you can enjoy breakfast at your leisure the next morning. Relax in our Greenhouse Spa, a shared facility offering a cedar hot tub and sauna for 2 persons and the services of a local beautician.
Mid Devon is a quiet, peaceful and very unspoilt part of the country, where you can wander along the narrow Devon lanes and glimpse rural views through gateways. An area not yet commercialised or teeming with visitors and traffic, a reminder of ages past and a slower less stressful way of life. Although the setting is rural and quiet we can offer some wonderful places to eat and visit. Dolton, a mile away to the north, has a small supermarket and post office, butchers and two good pubs, The Rams Head and The Royal Oak. A mile to the south you can find The Duke of York in Iddesleigh, home to Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse Valley, another great pub serving good food and company.
ZINGARO WAGON – Sleep 2 adults and up to 2 children. The wagon is not suitable for 4 adults.
Zingaro is a beautiful, peaceful and unique space. The Wagon sits at the end of the garden of The Old Stable apartments in its own quiet private garden space. The wagon is made by Barrel Top Wagons, a local business, who make solid, unique timber wagons and lodges and offer a bespoke carpentry service using locally grown timber to deliver beautiful, original designs. Their wooden caravans are more substantial than shepherds huts and gypsy wagons and we know our visitors will love it! This is glamping with luxury, along with the enjoyment of The Greenhouse Spa. Enter the wagon via some wooden steps and onto a small wooden balcony and through the large glass sliding doors.
The interior is open plan and includes
- Simple kitchen as you walk in
- Plenty of shelves for food, with crockery and kitchen equipment for four guests
- Microwave oven and a two ring gas hob
- Small fridge/freezer worktop
- Kitchen sink with hot and cold running running water
- Tea, coffee, sugar and hot chocolate to welcome your arrival along with some milk in the fridge
- Essential herbs, spices and oil
- Wooden steps up to the double bed on the mezzanine area above the dining/sitting area
- Sitting area below the bed has a table and side benches to sit 4 people, which will turn into another double bed if needed
- Living/sleeping area at the far end of the wagon
- Room to hang and shelves to place your clothes
- Small flat screen Freeview TV on the wall
- Electricity and free WiFi
- Woodburning Stove with kindling and logs
The whole wagon is insulated with wool, so it is beautifully cosy at all times.
Bed linen with a duvet is provided for the mezzanine bed and individual sleeping bags and pillows provided for the sofa bed below. Towels, dish cloths and tea towels are included. Purple towels are provided for use in the spa.
THE GREENHOUSE SPA
About 10 metres from the wagon is The Greenhouse Spa, where you will find your shower and next to this a separate, toilet. The shower has its own outside entrance and is for the use of Zingaro guests only. The spa offers a two person cedar hot tub and sauna (children are welcome to use the spa under adult supervision) and we can also offer the services of a local beautician,
Jess Beagent, if you fancy some pampering and relaxation during your stay. The spa is shared between the three properties and each property is given private time between 6-9pm. At any other time if it is free you may use it.
THE LOCAL AREA
Dowland is a small hamlet set in beautiful, unspoilt Devon countryside, looking south towards the northern end of Dartmoor; a perfect venue for a relaxing break or for exploring nearby villages, Dartmoor, Exmoor, RHS Rosemoor and the coastlines of Devon and Cornwall. The Old Stable is situated on the Tarka Trail, a 180 mile long trail that follows in the footsteps of the character Tarka the Otter from Henry Williamson’s famous novel. The Trail splits into 2 loops and we are situated on the South Loop. Also nearby are three Devon Wildlife Reserves, Halsdon, Meeth Quarry, and Ash Moor, which offer some spectacular woodland, river and meadow walks. The area is a walkers paradise. Halsdon Wood offers a walk which takes you to sites which inspired some of James Ravilious’ best-known photographs. James Ravilious took more than seventy thousand images before his death in 1999 and these can be seen at the Beaford Arts archive, a short drive away at Beaford. The Royal Photographic Society called his work “a unique body of work, unparalleled at least in this country for its scale and quality”.
