Glamping in the Devon Countryside with Hot Tub
The Old Stable in Devon offers glamping in the Devon Countryside at Zingaro Wagon alongside two beautiful and individual holiday apartments. Zingaro Wagon is a beautiful wooden barrel top wagon made by local craftsmen, offered on either a self catered. Relax in our Greenhouse Spa, a shared facility offering a cedar hot tub and sauna and the services of a local beautician. Sadly, these facilities are temporarily limited to help reduce the possible spread of coronavirus.
Mid Devon is a quiet, peaceful and very unspoilt part of the country, where you can wander along the narrow Devon lanes and glimpse rural views through gateways. An area not yet commercialised or teeming with visitors and traffic, a reminder of ages past and a slower less stressful way of life. Although the setting is rural and quiet we can offer some wonderful places to eat and visit. Dolton, a mile away to the north, has a small supermarket and post office, butchers and two good pubs, The Rams Head and The Royal Oak. A mile to the south you can find The Duke of York in Iddesleigh, home to Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse Valley, another great pub serving good food and company.
ZINGARO WAGON – Sleep 2 adults and up to 2 children. The wagon is not suitable for 4 adults.
Zingaro is a beautiful, peaceful and unique space for cool camping and glamping. The Wagon sits at the end of the garden of The Old Stable apartments in its own quiet private garden space. The wagon is made by Barrel Top Wagons, a local business, who offer a bespoke carpentry service using locally grown timber to deliver beautiful, original designs. Their wooden glamping caravans are more substantial than shepherds huts and gypsy wagons and we know our visitors will love it! This is glamping with luxury, along with the enjoyment of The Greenhouse Spa. Enter the wagon via some wooden steps and onto a small wooden balcony and through the large glass sliding doors.
The interior is open plan and includes
- Simple kitchen as you walk in
- Plenty of shelves for food, with crockery and kitchen equipment for four guests
- Microwave oven and a two ring gas hob
- Small fridge/freezer worktop
- Kitchen sink with hot and cold running running water
- Wooden steps up to the double bed on the mezzanine area above the dining/sitting area
- Sitting area below the bed has a table and side benches to sit 4 people, which will turn into another double bed if needed
- Living/sleeping area at the far end of the wagon
- Room to hang and shelves to place your clothes
- Small flat screen Freeview TV on the wall
- Electricity and free WiFi
- Woodburning Stove with kindling and logs
The whole wagon is insulated with wool, so it is beautifully cosy at all times.
Bed linen with a duvet is provided for the mezzanine bed and individual sleeping bags and pillows provided for the sofa bed below. Towels, dish cloths and tea towels are included.
THE GREENHOUSE SPA
Alongside your Glamping and about 10 metres from the wagon is The Greenhouse Spa, where you will find your shower and next to this a separate, toilet. The shower has its own outside entrance and is for the use of Zingaro guests only. The spa, when fully open, offers a two person hot tub and sauna (children are welcome to use the spa under adult supervision) and we can also offer the services of a local beautician, Jess Beagent, if you fancy some pampering and relaxation during your stay.
From the 25th July 2020 the hot tub only is available for use by guests. The spa also has a sauna and shower, but these will not be in use while government Covid-19 restrictions are in place. The spa facilities are normally shared between the 3 small properties we have on site. As this can no longer happen safely we are offering limited use during your stay and each property will be given the minimum of one day exclusive use.
The hot tub will be ready for you to use from 11am for the rest of the day until 9pm, when it will be locked. You can use it as often as you wish that day! We will clean and disinfect the spa each morning before 11am, so it is ready for the next guests to use.
THE DEVON COUNTRYSIDE AND THE LOCAL AREA
Dowland is a small hamlet set in beautiful, unspoilt Devon countryside, looking south towards the northern end of Dartmoor. Here is a perfect venue for a relaxing break or for exploring nearby villages, Dartmoor, Exmoor, RHS Rosemoor and the coastlines of Devon and Cornwall. The Old Stable is situated on the Tarka Trail, a 180 mile long trail that follows in the footsteps of the character Tarka the Otter from Henry Williamson’s famous novel. The Trail splits into 2 loops and we are situated on the South Loop. Also nearby are three Devon Wildlife Reserves, Halsdon, Meeth Quarry, and Ash Moor, which offer some spectacular woodland, river and meadow walks. The area is a walkers paradise. Halsdon Wood offers a walk which takes you to sites which inspired some of James Ravilious’ best-known photographs. James Ravilious took more than seventy thousand images before his death in 1999 and these can be seen at the Beaford Arts archive, a short drive away at Beaford. The Royal Photographic Society called his work “a unique body of work, unparalleled at least in this country for its scale and quality”.
