Our well-spaced self-catering safari lodges where you can hunker down or go out and explore. Norfolk has some beautiful beaches wonderful walks, great days out and bike routes are all on your doorstep. Back at camp, most of the creature comforts you enjoy at home can be found in our award-winning safari lodges which sleeping from 2 to 10 people with private bathrooms and fully equipped kitchens.
Spread over two private camps, our lodges are about 3 miles apart with our Serengeti luxury lodges offering over 600 square feet of top quality safari style accommodation. We also have the larger Zambezi lodges only at the Hideaway and during the summer an exclusive-use camp, Wild Camp!
THE CAMPS
SUMMERFIELD
A firm favourite especially with romantics and those with younger families. Described in the latest edition of the ultimate camping bible Cool Camping as the perfect escape in the UK for friends and young families. A firm favourite with return guests as it is the best of all worlds, located just off the coast with four great beaches on your doorstep but also hidden away so you can really enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. The Hideaway is great for young kids as it is a really defined camp set in 60 acres of grasslands. Perfect for youngsters to roam free within sight of parents so everyone can relax. There are woodlands to explore and an assortment of farm pets such as chickens to occupy and amuse.
Small and cosy, all lodges are well spaced with just five of our lodges (which sleep 2-6) . These are located in a wonderful setting and at night the biggest sky you have ever seen. After a few days at Summerfield you really feel you have escaped from the world.
The larger 6-10 person lodges atSummerfield are our latest innovation in safari style living. Zambezi lodges sleeps 10 (maximum 6 adults) in real comfort and has a very substantial living and dining areas combined with a huge sun-deck looking out to an amazing view. Located at our very popular Hideaway camp this the perfect place to escape with friends and family. If booking as part of a larger party then consider booking a Zambezi lodge and the adjacent Serengeti lodges as it makes a great group HQ.
Drove Orchards
A great location in a lovely apple farm within walking distance of Holme dunes beach and adjacent to a wildlife centre. You can also walk into the village of Thornham which has three top notch pubs and a deli. The award winning Coast hopper bus service can take you anywhere along this beautiful coastline and back home again every half an hour. There are also lovely beaches and pretty villages and towns at Brancaster, Holkham and Wells-next-Sea.
The lodges provide sleeping accommodation for 2-6 people are warm and cosy with a master bedroom, twin and very popular sleeping cupboard with ample room for two (or more!). There is also a dining area, sun deck and private loo and hot shower. Kitchens are fitted with a wood-burning range cooker, fridges, kitchen sink, dresser and induction stove. Ranges make the lodges warm and cosy and provide all your cooking and heating needs. Everything you will need for your stay down to cutlery and utensils is provided. There is electric lighting, charge points and electric blankets in the cooler months.
We also have Top Camp at Thornham Bay. 3 Serengeti lodges in a secluded position all by themselves. Top Camp lodges also offer electric hurricane lamps, phone chargers, fridges and hair-dryers. These make a great venue for families holidaying together.
WILD CAMP – FOR GROUPS
Tried and tested and featured in the Sunday Travel Magazine this is a very cool escape. Wild camp is an exclusive-use site for groups of between 8-12 people with five luxury sleeping bell tents, a 5 metre ‘chill’ tent and an amazing 13m star canopy to enjoy meals or kick back and unwind. Everything is geared to a group of friends or family having fun and a very relaxed time!
Our Wild Camp has a dedicated RV-style support unit which offers a kitchen with gas hob, cooker, fridge/freezer . In addition there is girls and boys loos, camp fire area, hammocks, swingballs and wildlife to keep you amused for days. The really cool outdoor barbeque kitchen and our amazing shower tower! The Wild Camp price includes linen, beds made up and wood supplies so no additional extras are necessary when booking.
Please note that we do not take groups where guests are predominantly under 25 years of age.
SLEEPING
This is sleeping in the wild with a real difference. Accommodation has been designed to ensure that you get a real cosy night’s sleep whatever the weather. Bedrooms provide real beds and mattresses on solid wood floors and are divided into individual areas for privacy and comfort. Our snug sleeping cupboard is particularly popular with younger adventurers and always creates a little debate about who is going to get to sleep in it! We also provide hot water bottles if you require to get into an extra warm bed.
The range not only is an excellent cooker but also provides warmth in the evenings and night. This is located towards the rear of the lodge giving maximum benefit to all sleeping areas.
We provide warm duvets and pillows with guests bringing their own linen and towels. This is particularly good with younger children who love to have a little bit of home like their own duvet cover in their new and exciting surrounding. For a small charge bed linen can be provided.
In safari lodges the washing and lavatory cabins are tucked away at the rear of the lodge to ensure that you don’t have to walk too far but also you get a little bit of privacy even from the rest of your friends or family.
COOKING, EATING AND HEATING
When it comes to cooking you have a whole host of choices. The wood-fired cooker range within the lodge itself means that you can cook either on the hob or even turn out a lovely Sunday roast from the ovens. Outside you can have your own dedicated fire-pit which is great for barbeques and making sure that the men take over some of the cooking duties! The pantry provides most of your everyday requirements from locally made sausages to candles and we also provide inspirational quick and easy wild recipes.
IN YOUR LODGE
Every lodge is supplied with either a fridge a top of the range coolbox sourced from the capital of cool boxes – Texas. These can take everything from a large bottle of coke to a big bag of ice. The cool boxes can keep chilled throughout your stay, although you will need to replenish the ice packs every day. There are lots of great places to buy fresh food and vegetables locally so you really don’t need to bring too much.
The range is the heart of your lodgings and quietly keeps everything warm and cosy. It’s like having a little bit of sunshine always with you whatever the weather. There is something really special about sitting under canvas on even a stormy night with the rain lashing down and you chatting by candlelight in total warmth with later rolling into your snug bed just feet away.
