Acorn Glade is a romantic grown-ups only glamping retreat, located on a beautiful lake-side meadow and woodland site on the fringes of the Vale of York and the Yorkshire Wolds. Our compact glamping site only has one log cabin, two yurts and one gypsy wagon and is set in about three acres of land. Acorn Glade is a designated Local Wildlife Site, with a private still water fishing lake (for use exclusively by guests). The accommodation is ideal for couples and offers a haven of back-to-basics bliss away from the stresses of modern day life. The emphasis is on comfortable off-grid eco living, a sort of camping in style (‘glamorous’ or ‘glorified camping’). It’s like your own personal hotel room, but with an outdoorsy feel. For your comfort, the yurts or log cabin have a real double or king size bed, duvets, pillows and bedding with wood burning stoves. The 100 year old Gypsy Wagon has an authentic coal burning stove and a quirky 4ft double bed. For this unique accommodation you have the option of bringing your own bed linen or hiring them from us. Our communal kitchen is equipped with gas hob, microwave and fridge together with all the pans, crockery and cutlery that you’ll need. There are no pets or children at Acorn Glade and it’s even a wi-fi free zone so bring a good book, a pack of cards or a board game and a sense of adventure. Guests are encouraged to relax, enjoy the peace and tranquillity; to explore their natural surroundings, before slipping into comfy beds in either the charming yurts, cosy Gypsy wagon or well-equipped snug log cabin. Just imagine, sitting outside your yurt, Gypsy wagon or log cabin with a glass of wine in the evening sunshine, watching and listening to the wildlife, then later perhaps a bit of star-gazing gathered around our communal fire-pit.
OUR GLAMPING RETREATS
Within Poppy & Daisy Yurts and Bluebell Log Cabin, there are proper double/king-size beds with warm duvets (extra blankets available). All bedding is provided, but please bring your own towels (unless you have arranged a towel bail package with us). There is a basic gas camping stove for making hot drinks. For cooking meals, you can use the well-equipped communal kitchen ‘The Chicken Shed’, where there are gas hobs, kettle, fridge and a microwave. The yurts and log-cabin are off-grid, however there are solar fairy lights automatically activated in the evening to light your accommodation and switched solar-powered lamps. Please ensure you bring warm clothing, wellingtons, a torch, tea towel, charcoals for the BBQ (weather dependant), fish bait (if you are planning on buying a day fishing pass), a good book, an open mind (if you are a first time glamper) and a sense of adventure.
POPPY & DAISY YURTS
Set in the wild flower meadow overlooking the lake, all our Yurts are 16′ diameter and are constructed with a unique wooden frame and covered with canvas. Our yurts have double beds, internal and external seating, tea & coffee making facilities, solar lighting and solar fairy lights activated in the evening to light your accommodation and USB charging point. The yurts are off-grid so no electricity and TVs. There are no toilets in the yurts, however the amenity block (called “The Chicken Shed”) is less than 50m from each unit. Both yurts have real log burning stoves with an initial free basket of seasoned logs. More logs are available with a small payment via an honesty box. This is a NO SMOKING accommodation.
BLUEBELL LOG CABIN
Set in a woodland area with commanding views of the lake, our log cabin is traditional insulated solid timber log cabin construction (with double glazed windows and doors) and are made for all year round living. The log cabin is equipped with an eco-composting toilet and also use of separate showers and toilets. All units have real log burning stoves with an initial free basket of seasoned logs. More logs are available with a small payment via an honesty box. The cabin is equipped with a USB charging point generated by solar power. This is a NO SMOKING accommodation.
ROSE GYPSY WAGON
Set in a woodland area overlooking the lake, Rose is a 100 year old renovated traditional bow top wagon with feature stain glass window. The wagon features a cosy pull out 4ft x 6ft double bed (which is accessible with a bit of a climb!) There is a unique Queen Anne coal burning stove with an initial free scuttle of coal / kindling. Further scuttles of coal are available at a small charge. A double duvet and pillows are included, but NOT BED LINEN. This means that you can bring along your own bed linen or if you wish you can hire these upon booking. This is a NO SMOKING accommodation.
THE CHICKEN SHED
This is our main arrival area and wash room, with toilets and showers and comfortable kitchen facilities. At Acorn Glade we are ‘keen to be green’ and, with our commitment to a sustainable environment, we are trying to do as much as we can to help you to enjoy a low carbon holiday, hence electricity and hot water is generated from renewable energy. For cooking meals and snacks, you can use the well-equipped communal kitchen ‘The Chicken Shed’, where there are gas hobs, kettle, fridge and a microwave, including pots & pans and cutlery and crockery. Everyone has access to use the communal toilets and showers which are less than 50m from each unit. The Chicken Shed kitchen, showers and toilets are open 24 x 7 with automatic lighting. We have invested in many water saving devices (such as push button water taps) around the site to eliminate waste but still keep your stay enjoyable. In the evening, energy-saving lighting is complimented by solar lighting to assist you in the dark. We have a combined toilet and hot shower which is suitable for the semi-ambulant, but may not be suitable for disabled.
The Acorn Glade Workshop offers you the opportunity to try out activities or learn new skills, such as art and crafts, sewing, crochet, felting, sculpture and pottery. Workshops on selected dates include wildlife photography and Painting. Please contact Acorn Glade directly.
WILDLIFE AND RURALITY
The open still water and woodland area of Acorn Glade is a designated Local Wildlife Site. Within this wildlife haven you may see migrating birds, wild fowl, dragonflies and damselflies, as well as fish and amphibians. For those wishing to wile the time away, there is an abundance of fish within a small unspoiled still-water course fishing lake (day fishing pass available upon request, however, you will require an official rod licence, available from the Post Office).
