Glamping Suffolk near Southwold

At Ivy Grange Farm in Suffolk we can offer you the perfect glamping break, with four wonderfully furnished yurts and a shepherd’s hut, set in beautiful countryside close to the great beaches of Southwold and Walberswick with fantastic pubs, countryside, food and shopping.  The yurts and shepherd’s hut are spaced nicely apart in a 3 acre meadow; all accommodation is set on raised decking with a cosy wood burner inside and campfire pit and BBQ outside.  We’re keen on all things food here, so you’ll also find tripods and dutch-ovens for campfire cooking as well as a great pizza oven for creating amazing wood-fire pizzas!  Imagine sitting around your campfire at sunset enjoying an al-fresco meal as you watch the swallows skim the meadow!  The perfect setting for family holidays, a romantic break or get-together with friends and family.

Once inside, a really comfortable bed, thick duvet and twinkling fairy lights will ensure a good night’s sleep under the inky black sky with the Milky Way arcing above.  In the morning take a luxurious woodland shower with hot water from the mains; a delight at any time of the day as the sun beams in from dawn to dusk.

All the yurts are furnished with a comfy double bed, proper mattresses as well as fold-out singles, duvets and pillows. There are also easy chairs, dresser with space for storage, table and chairs etc.  All crockery and cutlery, cooking pots and pans are provided as well as the essential cafetiere!  The yurts all have a rechargeable lantern and solar powered fairy lights (a great hit with the kids), as well as tea lights.

With a gorgeous red wool lining around the walls and a pale linen colour on the roof and with a wood-burner it’ll be lovely and cosy whatever the weather! Swallow Yurt includes

  • Elegant French double bed with upholstered headboard
  • Comfy futon chair/single bed
  • Dresser and blanket box

Yellowhammer named after the farmland bird that frequents our hedgerows, has steam bent ash roof poles, cherry-wood hanging shelves all lovingly made and includes

  • Double bed
  • Single futon “twingle” bed that also serves as a sofa
  • Fold-out mattress and a child-sized roll-out
  • Table and chairs
  • Hand-painted dresser finished with beeswax polish!

Lapwing is fully lined with sheep’s wool felt for the cooler ends of the season and elegantly finished with pale cotton lining. The yurt includes

  • Double bed
  • Single futon “twingle” bed that also serves as a sofa
  • Fold-out mattress

There’s a campfire and bar-b-q and the yurt sits on its own decking with chairs and table for alfresco dining or just sitting with a glass of something watching the setting sun.

BARN OWL YURT – Sleeps 4

Made to the traditional design with oak trellis and steam-bent ash roof piles, Barn Owl sits at the far end of the meadow. The yurt includes:

  • Double bed
  • Single futon “twingle” bed that also serves as a sofa
  • A child-sized roll out (for under 10-year old)

We’re delighted with our lovely new Hut, which is fully insulated and double glazed for real snug-ness! As with the yurts, the Hut has decking outside with cooking and eating space. The Hut (which is 17 ft long and 7ft wide) includes:

  • Full-sized double bed at one end
  • A sofa that converts to a bunk bed for a child at the other
  • Table and chairs, plenty of storage and even electric lights courtesy of a solar panel!

Each yurt and Hut has its own campfire pit and there’s a couple of tripods and cook-pots available if you fancy trying your hand at campfire cooking.  We have a good supply of seasoned wood available at cost price and supply kindling, firelighters, newspapers etc at no charge.  You are welcome to bring your own campfire wood but remember no nails or painted or treated wood.

Our ‘safari style’ kitchen is great if you want to cook under cover; there are views out across the field, so you can still keep an eye on what’s happening. You will be able to make anything from an early morning cup of tea to an elegant evening meal, taking advantage of the excellent local produce and speciality food shops and suppliers.

We have fruit and vegetable troughs dotted around the barn for you to pick or dig from, free of charge.  There’s a range of produce available throughout the year and we try to ensure there’s always a good selection of herbs for pizza-making or campfire cooking.

This year we’ve introduced a new honesty shop with basic camping foods (pasta, tinned tomatoes, passata, ground coffee, herb teas, furrow crisps, marmalade, honey, eggs etc as well as pizza dough making ingredients – no milk, cheeese or bread) so you don’t need to bring everything with you. We’ll experiment with what we stock according to feedback, so do let us know what you think.

In the barn there’s an electric kettle and toaster as well as armchairs and sofas, table football,full-sized table tennis, books, maps, fridge-freezers, charging points for phones or laptops as well as WiFi.  You’ll also find a collection of bikes here if you fancy exploring the quiet country lanes, or space to store your own.  We have a good supply of local OS maps and cycle routes and are always happy to share our favourite outings

“The Old Cowshed” adjacent to the barn houses flushing toilets, showers, basins, mirrors and washing up facilities, with plenty of hot water from the solar panels on the stable roof (supported by an environmentally friendly wood-pellet boiler and two large hot water cylinders for those occasional overcast days). And tucked away beneath the rowan tree you’ll find the double outdoor shower with proper hot water in a wooded area well screened by willow fencing. Take a warm moonlit shower, or a morning refresher whilst the bullfinches whistle away in the ash tree overhead.

We’ve been running an annual Full Moon Walk each September led by author and travel writer Dixe Wills. These have been a great success and so we’ve decided to run the walks through the year on a more informal basis. Each Full Moon we’ll set out on a walk, with other people from the area, on a favourite route that works well by moonlight! The walks will generally be 5-6 miles and take between 2 to 3 hours to complete. Start time will depend on the time of year; we’ll set off at dusk which is when the moon starts to rise so that we get the benefit of good moonlight throughout the walk. Even if we get cloud cover, it’s remarkable how much light finds its way through and torches are only needed if we meet a car (most of the walk will be off-road but not all) or want to check the map. The walks should be fine for anyone of reasonable fitness, including older children (we’ve had ages of 8 upwards join us) and you’ll need a good pair of walking boots or shoes and a torch. Please enquire for further details.

We’re easy to get to however you travel – the A12, the Sustrans National Cycle Route 1, a local bus runs past the gate and we are happy to collect guests from our local station at Brampton.
