Craighead Howfs is near Dunblane, Perthshire, Scotland offering you a delightful location in which to spend your holiday, either to simply relax or as a base for some of the best Scotland has to offer. What makes it special is the setting combined with the very high standard achieved. It is unique in its quiet country setting, surrounded by natural gardens, a lochan and woodland areas. We have wonderful views, sunsets and privacy, yet thanks to our location we are ideally placed to base yourself for easy access to some of Scotland’s finest country and tourist attractions.
Strike out from here to visit Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, Edinburgh or Glasgow or head north for the Highlands, Scotland’s National Parks or the mountains and lochs of the Trossachs. We are only a mile and a half from Cromlix House, newly renovated by Wimdeldon champion Andy Murray. Why not treat yourself to lunch or dinner at this must visit venue being overseen by the Roux brothers.
For golfers it couldn’t be better with an array of golf courses available including the famous Gleneagles. Walkers and cyclists will find this an ideal base to return to in the evenings. Or simply relax surrounded by peace, tranquility, wildlife and our variety of animals and poultry. Our free range hens will provide you with your breakfast and eggs can be found in the honesty box at the bottom of the lane! THE TREE HOWF – Sleeps 2
The Tree Howf is a beautifully designed and crafted masterpiece! Built within the branches of the tree it has amazing 360 degree views. It is totally self sufficient with internal cooking facilities, shower and wood burning stove/oven. Downstairs there is compost loo.
Guests who have already visited have loved it, really appreciating the loving attention to detail in the design and build. A really exceptional glamping experience.
In the evening sit outside on the balcony overlooking the lochan and views of the Ochils. Test your cookery skills on the wood burning oven and enjoy your food al fresco. In the summer the swallows will dip in the water… You will be treated to lots of birds, wildlife, soay and ryeland sheep, ponies, our two donkeys, our pygmy goats, a variety of poultry including turkeys, rhea, guinea fowl, ducks and geese. The Tree Howf is open March to November. For Christmas & New Year please email for availability. The Tree Howf is not suitable for children.

THE WEE HOWF – Sleeps 2
The ‘Wee Howf’ is a secluded romantic getaway. It is quite simply unique, All our guests over the years have loved it. Totally secluded with amazing views of the lochan and countryside beyond, you are immersed in the environment but have a very special place to stay. This romantic cabin for two lets you experience camping with a difference. Fully insulated with a log burning stove and candle light and there is no electricity, but you will be provided with everything you need to make this an amazing place to stay at any time of the year. The Wee Howf is built on stilts, amongst the trees with a burn running right underneath!! The Wee Wee Howf attached to the Wee Howf gives you a private shower, compost toilet and washing up facilities.
In the evening sit outside by the open fire beside the lochan, barbecue or cook on the camping gas. Using the pulley pull a bottle of wine or beer up from the ‘fridge in the burn’ and enjoy views over the Ochils, or watch the fish jump. In the summer the swallows will dip in the water… You will be treated to lots of birds, wildlife, our two highland cows, soay sheep, ponies and much more. At the end of the day settle down in the sumptuous double bed, star gaze through the star gazing window and listen to the burn bubbling under the ‘Wee Howf’.

THE SUMMER HOWF – Sleeps 2
The Summer Howf offers a totally different Glamping experience, with a truly garden feel inside and out you are immersed in our country garden. The Summer Howf is a delightfully renovated Summer House complete with its own electricity. It is furnished to give you a feel of camping but most definitely in a garden style. It’s totally secluded amongst the trees at the very top of the garden alongside the duck pond with the ducks as your neighbours. Walk over the bridge to see the Rhea and Turkey’s.
Large plants and shrubs edge the burn as it wanders down the garden. A delightful canopy covers the patio area where you will find everything you need in the camp kitchen. In addition a lovely gravel area is home to a fire pit/BBQ with additional seating. You will be spoilt for choice. Eat at the bench, by the fire or wander behind the Summer Howf to a small private clearing. When the sun shines take the picnic blanket and lie under the amazing Ash tree only being disturbed by the ducks and birds. With a distinctly European feel the Summer Howf is furnished tastefully with all you will need and more.

THE BURROW AND BAGEND HOBBIT HOWFS ……..opening May 2018
The Burrow and Bagend are two amazing Hobbit Howfs built into the hillside and adorned with grassy roofs and round doors. A stay here will transport you to a magical world of Lord of the Rings, amongst highland cows and little goats in a shire all of your own. The off grid Hobbit Howfs are traditionally built from stone and wood, with nooks and crannies with stunning views all around. It’s a delightful 200m walk from the car park to the Hobbits with your own hobbit barrow to transport luggage.
In the evening sit outside overlooking the views of the Ochils and watch the beautiful horses roam. Test your cookery skills on the BBQ and enjoy your food al fresco. You will be treated to lots of birds. We regularly have Red Kites fly overhead and wildlife, ponies, soay and ryeland sheep, two donkeys, our pygmy goats, a variety of poultry including turkeys, guinea fowl, rhea, ducks, geese and the stars of the show our two highland cows Uigg and Beag!

FACILITIES at the Wash Howf
Created in a charming country style offering you a shower, toilet, hair drying facility, fridge/freezer and washing up area. The facilities in the ‘Wash Howf’ which is a pleasant walk up to the main buildings. The Wash Howf also boasts a small shop for the things you may have forgotten or for the days you just don’t want to leave. In the shop you will also find additional wood and charcoal for the fire pit and BBQ. There is also a range of information of things to do in the local area and somewhere to hang wet coats/walking gear if the sun don’t shine!!
There is plenty to do in the area with great access to main roads and railway, but if you don’t feel like leaving the Howfs you can just enjoy the grounds and gardens of Craighead.
