At Under the Milky Way in Devon we offer glamping close to nature in one of our luxurious and romantic Bell Tents or Shepherds Hut, situated about 2.5 miles outside of Combe Martin, a quirky fun seaside village on the amazing Heritage Coast. Combe Martin has it’s own beach and at low tide there are fantastic rocks to scramble on with loads of rock pools to explore. Under the Milky Way is a peaceful haven ideally situated to explore the whole area. The wide open spaces of Exmoor are a few minutes away and the fantastic surf beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde are only a fifteen minute drive away.
We are in a quiet rural location surrounded by fields and woods and most of the time the loudest sound is birdsong, though we do have to cut the grass with our small tractor from time to time. We have plenty of space around the tents for the impromptu games of cricket, football and just running about, that often take place involving children and parents alike. It is possible to walk into the village from here, it’s a steep climb, but a car is really essential if you wish to fully explore the area and all the varied experiences on offer.
THE BELL TENTS
We have three of our lovely tents, set well apart from another in 10 acres of gently sloping fields and steep wooded valleys. The tents are 5m in diameter, easily big enough for four people, you could squeeze one more little one if need be – it would just be even cosier.
Each Tent is lavishly equipped with
- 1 double bed and 2 single beds
- Wood burning stove
- Candles and solar lights
- Picnic table
- Camping gas cooker
- Cool box and all the bits and pieces you will need
There is no electricity, so though very comfy, you are camping complete with a campfire if you wish
The Shepherds Hut will sleep 4/5 people in one double bed and bunk beds with a wood burning stove to keep you warm. It’s equipped with rugs, candles and solar lights but no electricity. Cooking facilities will be outside complete with camping gas stove, cool box and all the bits and prices you will need. Shower and washing facilities are just a short walk away.
PRIVATE LOO AND WETROOM
Each Tent or the Shepherd Hut has its own private wetroom/shower, loo and basin complete with underfloor heating and your own key to the door.
This is a spectacular part of North Devon with it’s famous surf beaches, moors and stunning countryside. One of the most fun things to do here is surfing and we are spoilt for choice with Woolacombe, Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton Sands all close by. These are great sandy beaches with loads of space and during the summer months some of them have lifeguards for your peace of mind and safety. The gently shelving beaches are great for kids too as the shallows go out a long way though on rougher days you must watch out for waves. There are plenty of places to get lessons and hire the kit such as Nick Thorn or Surf South West
