Glamping Cornwall

Nestled beside the old viaduct, with far reaching views down the valley towards the bustling fishing village of Porthleven, Lowena Glamping offers you a beautiful setting for your holiday in Cornwall. Our tipis and bell tents are tastefully furnished with comfy beds and cosy trimmings making this an ideal place to relax and unwind. Our site stretches over 5 acres and includes private woodland and the long since disused nineteenth century granite quarry which was developed to build the via-duct. Wildlife abounds. Rabbits are ever present, foxes, hawks and buzzards are regularly sighted and, at night, the mating call of the odd owl can be heard.

Beyond the site, a number of bridleways and footpaths lead into the local area. There is a 2 mile country amble to the hamlet of Trenear where there is a church and a village pub. In the other direction it’s a similar distance along the river footpath into the old market town of Helston, home of the flora dance, which offers a variety of pubs and restaurants to suit most tastes. Helston also has the usual amenities expected in a town of about 10,000 residents including shops, churches, a leisure and fitness centre and 4 chippys!

Just 4 miles away is the working fishing village of Porthleven. In the past few years, this has developed a reputation as a foodies destination and, most recently, Rick Stein has added his own fish and seafood restaurant to the line up.

Back at Lowena, each tipi and bell tent has

  • barbecue
  • kettle
  • cooking utensils
  • a shared covered area in case of rain

Alternatively, we can provide picnic hampers with a range of local goodies, from simple breakfasts to sumptuous lunches including a bottle of bubbly for that special occasion. Please discuss your requirements at any stage before, or during, your stay.

Beyond the peace and tranquility of Lowena, Cornwall offers a variety of activities to keep you busy. Our beaches are seen as some of the best in the world and provide the opportunity to experience a multitude of water sports whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned surfer. Sailing, surfing, fishing and sea kayaking to name but a few are only a short distance away. Other beaches are perfect for families or for those just wanting to relax on the sand. Beyond the beach, Cornwall offers activities from horse riding and cycling, tennis and golf, to bird watching and hiking along beautiful coastal paths. While you’re here, why not take a class in seafood or Italian cooking or develop your creative skills in a water colours workshop? If all that sounds too energetic, per-haps we can tempt you from your deck chair with a trip to the local chocolate factory in Mullion….!

Situated at the gateway to the Lizard and Lands End, there are any number of spectacular sites and ancient ruins to visit just a stones throw from Lowena. The magnificent island monastery of St Michaels Mount is just 20 minutes drive away, and just beyond is the romanticised town of Penzance. A little beyond Penzance lies Lands End and the Minack theatre set outside on the cliffs high above Porthcurno. National Heritage sites abound, the Eden Project is inspiring, and literary, cultural and food festivals are regular occurrences.

It is not difficult to see why so many writers have been inspired by Cornwall, and why makers of film and television have returned here time and again. Footage from Mary Wesley, Daphne Du Maurier, Doc Martin, the Onedin Line, Caroline Quentin, Rick Stein and, of course, the recent re-making of Poldark, showcase the beauty and drama of Cornwall’s landscape.

Here at Lowena, we will do everything we can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Whether you are looking for an action packed break or simply a relaxing time in this beautiful Cornish retreat, we look forward to welcoming you with a complimentary traditional Cornish cream tea on arrival.
